Vocations LogoNorth Staffordshire Vocations Promotions Group

The North Staffs Vocations Promotion Group was started in 1988 by Fr Seamus Gilroy. Fr Gilroy was the Vocations Director for the Archdiocese of Birmingham and was aware of what a large geographical area the diocese covered and of his inability to be able to be in all places at once to help to promote vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life.

The group is made up of 8 lay people and 2 clergy reps – Fr John Gilbert & Dcn Neil Adlington. It meets about every 2 months and receives regular support from the Archdiocese Vocations Dept. (See below for Newsletter, Presentations 2017 and contact details

Our aim is to organise events and initiatives that help parish, schools & individuals to pray for and support vocations to the Priesthood, Diaconate & Religious Life

Recently the group has collaborated with the Primary Schools of the Deanery to produce a Rosary Prayer booklet looking especially at the Mysteries of Light. Each school has received 30 copies and there are copies available for parishes and individuals.

On May 6th we organised our 2nd Vocations Awareness Day. We heard talks from Sr Gillian Murphy from the Maryvale Institute, Fr David O’Malley, Vocations Director for the Salesians of Don Bosco and Paul Mayland who is a parish Deacon based at St Mary’s Norton.

Lesley Colclough who is a member of our group, also presented a talk on resources and how each of our parishes might commit to praying for, and supporting vocations. For a copy of Lesley’s presentation, please Click here
